We were asked by Oasis Domestic Abuse Charity to help design illustrations for a new game project they were working on as part of a counselling program to help victims of domestic abuse. The project is called Phoenix, to symbolise how the interaction of sessions and the board game will help transform and empower a person.
During the initial stages of discussing the potential designs, we decided to use the concept of Haida art as an inspiration for the brief. We love the distinctive style of the works of the indigenous tribe of West Canada, and it seemed fitting to style the board on a totem pole layout.

By looking up meaning behind different animals within Haida culture, we were inspired to use an owl, butterfly, the moon and hummingbirds. We decided to use a bee to symbolise work life as it is quite common to associate bees with working hard!
The Phoenix Kit
The team behind Phoenix, plan to use a main board, printouts of branded charts and a self-care list for their sessions. We assisted with the idea to turn the board into a dual purpose cardboard envelope, so that it can hold all the documents and turn into a board from the inside out when needed. The project will be distributed to charities across the UK.
